The hardest part about Christmas isn't buying the perfect gift, it's receiving it. I often get asked what I want for Christmas by family members, and I very rarely have something right off the top of my head that I can tell them. The truth is, like most men my age, if it costs less than $50 and I really want it, I've probably already bought it for myself.
Likewise, most of the really great gifts out there that I'd like either are too expensive, or completely unrealistic. Below is my ultimate list of cool shit I'd like to receive for Christmas, regardless of whether or not it's probable that I can ever get it, or if they even make it. However, there's always an option of meeting either a long lost billionaire uncle or a genie, so I'll keep this list close at hand.
Leak Proof Waders: I am getting frustrated with waders. I've had just about enough discomfort from stepping into a stream and having my boot foot fill up with water. I have tried everything at this point, and my waders are nothing more than glue and waterproof tape anymore. It's not like I buy crappy waders, it's just that they don't last as long as I would like. I see that there are some improvements in taping, sewing, and materials, but I don't know if we have reached the quality standards I expect. I've almost considered just wearing a wet suit and be done with it, but I may not quite be there yet.
So, for Christmas I want some really tough waders, and I want them to be warm, leak proof, and easy to repair. Please, someone, can we make a pair that can really stay dry?
Time: Working full time and being in school full time has really eaten a lot of my free time. I don't have much time to blog, do activities in my fly fishing club, or really much of anything else for that matter. While I'm in school, I typically spend all day Saturday doing homework and have class two nights a week. But, I'm doing this to help advance my career and for my family, so this is pretty much the modus operandi for the next two years. However, I would like just a few free mornings to get some fishing in, just a few!
A Spammer Vaporizer: I am getting tired of Spammers. They hit you on Twitter, Facebook, email, text messaging, and now even my blog. They seem to favor one or two posts, right some bull shit comments and then put a link to their site that sells boner pills or whatever crap. I've had to turn on comment moderation to keep that buggers off the site so I don't have to subject my fellow blogger friends to their bullshit. Sometimes I wish I could just wish them into oblivion, and vaporize them immediately. These people are the global dregs of society, and I wish their computers would rise up and shock them anytime they caught them posting a comment on a blog with broken English and a link to their scam site.
Consistent Weather: This passed summer was way too dry, and it really screwed up the hunting this fall. Last spring was way too wet, and really screwed up the fishing. I just want some consistent weather. Just give me snow in the winter, sufficient rain in the spring, and cool refreshing autumns. I don't need droughts, 80 degree days in November or tornadoes in January. It's getting a little scary anymore.
Cheaper Ammunition: Wow, what's up with the price of ammo? I know with the concerns of lead, and governments making it more difficult to open ammo manufacturing facilities, the price of bullets has gone through the roof. Well, everything is gone through the roof. But I would like to go out for a day of shooting and not have to plop down $80.
So, here are a few things I'd like Santa Claus. Not sure how you'd stuff them under a tree, but I'm sure you can figure it out.
I hope everyone else is having a wonderful Christmas.

Josh Rust
That is an excellent list! Here in CT ammo even .22 bulk ammo is very scarce. Now our law makers are thinking about a 50% sales tax on ammo. I am stocking up.
ReplyDeleteI hear ya about the waders. I haven't spent over $100 on a pair so I can't complain too much. I am thinking about getting some Simms boots and waders at the fly show.
