Camp Food This Weekend: A Montage

Cue "Eye Of The Tiger."

Its time for a Rocky themed inspirational series of camp cuisine that can only be described as pure gluttony. Here's a walk through what I packed for this past weekend's fun filled kayaking and camping trip. (More to come too on the trip, the cave and the other oddities of paddling with a diverse group of people.)

Hit it!

Trail Mix: don't buy it pre-made! Planters mixed nuts plus M&Ms is way better and way fresher!

Breakfast: Fiber and fruit, can't beat it. Fiber fills you up and is best for long days on the water.

Caffeine: Can't have fun if you're asleep! Diet Pepsi, Sugar free Red Bull and Starbucks VIA. There's no reason to get your go juice with a bunch of calories

Get your motor running....

Dinner: Do all of your trimming and cut everything into bite sized pieces at home.

Throw in your marinades and freeze your packages the night before. It should be defrosted by the next day and ready to cook! Here is a chicken breast in Hawaiian marinade and venison in fresh garlic and Worcestershire sauce.

GRILL TIME!
All it takes is a small portable grill from a big box retailer to make a delicious meal.

Potatoes first! Slice them up, put them in a Ziploc bag and add olive oil, fresh parsley, pepper, kosher salt and red pepper flakes. Should take them about 15 minutes to cook.

Remove the taters and throw your chicken on the grill. Chicken cooks quick. Don't overcook them or they get rubbery.

Deer steak cooked medium rare. Trimmed at home of all fat. Deliciousness........

Combine and dine

Last step: make a fire, grab a good domestic microbrew and relax.

  1. Looks like you got the meal planning thing down to a science! Good looking stuff for sure , if the rest of the trip was half as good as the food I'm sure a good time was had by all.
